DART auto has been involved in Porsche racing since the beginning, in fact it was owner Dave Banazek’s interest in racing that was the impetus to start DART auto. The Porsche SPEC Boxster class has been around for several years now and is growing in popularity. The class allows racers to have a lot of fun in a lightly modified Boxster and spend less money than in many of the classes.
Porsche built a great reliable street car with the Boxster, but for all out racing use there are a few systems that should be upgraded. For this particular car we installed an Accusump pressurized oiling system. When Porsche switched from a true dry sump system as used on the earlier air cooled cars to a modified dry sump system found on the 996 and Boxster, problems began to arise with oil starvation in track used cars. The constant cornering can cause the oil pump to temporarily not be submerged in oi, resulting in a loss of oil pressure. This can lead to rod bearing damage. Accusump has been making their proven oiling system to minimize this problem for years and it is a popular addition to Boxsters and 996s that see heavy track use.
The system on this SPEC Boxster uses and automatic valve, aeroquip braided oil lines, an oil cooler and an external oil filter.
Another common problem with is overheating the transmission fluid. For this spec Boxster we added an external oil pump and an oil cooler to keep the gear oil cool and the transmission gears lubricated and cool. This really extends the life of the Boxster transmission.
