Even though a 2016 model isn’t technically twelve years old yet, Porsche’s maintenance schedule is based on mileage or time—whichever comes first. For a precision machine like the GTS, staying ahead of these intervals is the difference between a car that feels “used” and one that feels brand new every time you hit the gas.
Here is a look behind the scenes at what we did to keep this 911 at peak performance.
The Heart of the Matter: Spark Plugs & Air Filters
We started with the engine’s vitals. On a 911, the spark plugs are tucked away, but replacing them is critical. Over time, plugs wear down, leading to misfires or a loss of that crisp throttle response the GTS is known for. More importantly, leaving them in too long can lead to corrosion or seizing in the cylinder head—an expensive headache we prevent by swapping them out now.
While we were in there, we replaced the engine air filter. A Porsche engine is essentially a giant air pump; if it can’t breathe, it can’t make power. The fresh filter ensures the engine gets the clean, high-velocity air it needs for maximum fuel efficiency and performance.
Reliability Under the Hood: The Drive Belt
The drive belt is the unsung hero of your engine. It powers the water pump and the alternator. We replaced the belt on this GTS because, after years of heat cycles, rubber begins to deteriorate and crack. A failed belt means a dead battery and an overheating engine—not something you want to deal with on the side of the I-25.
Cabin Comfort: Dual-Stage Filtration
To keep the driving experience as refined as possible, we addressed the HVAC system. This involves two steps:
- The Pre-Filter: This is the first line of defense, catching large debris, leaves, and heavy contaminants.
- The Cabin Air Filter: This finer filter traps pollen and dust, ensuring the air inside the cockpit stays crisp and the HVAC motors aren’t strained by a clogged system.

The PDK Transmission: Smooth Shifts and Longevity
- PDK Transmission Fluid: Over time, this fluid degrades and becomes contaminated with microscopic particles from the internal wet clutches. Fresh fluid ensures the lightning-fast, seamless shifts the PDK is famous for.
- PDK Clutch Fluid: This specific fluid is responsible for lubricating and cooling the clutches. By replacing it, we ensure the transmission stays cool under pressure and extend the lifespan of the entire unit.
Ready for the Road
After a final inspection and a test drive to ensure everything was dialed in, this 2016 Carrera GTS was ready for its owner to pick up. This major service isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about preserving the soul of the car.
